It's BEEN Years....... [Mar. 21st, 2012|03:56 am]
Kemetic Paths

nemtetsemnewty
I know this is neither the forum nor the time for this question, but, I have little options it seems.

What has happened to live journal over the years and are you still as active on it as you have been in years past?
Have you moved onto another journal site for the most part? If yes, would you like to see this community journal find a new home? If so, where would you like it to be?

I realize these questions and this topic is not apropos for the journal but, since it is almost totally inactive at the moment, I think the answers may give us all some needed insights.  A defunct community journal is no help to anyone.

Waiting for your response.
If you would rather contact me privately, please write me at: Sakhmet.Iatut@gmail.com
It is an address I use for community business such as this ONLY.
Thank you.

Truth [Oct. 16th, 2008|12:02 am]

Truth

Truth is perhaps the most beautiful and rarest thing upon this earth. It is I the spirit of truth that I come here to ask you, my fellow kemetics, an important question, and in my opinion the most important question of all when it comes to religion.

Do you truly believe that your religion is true? Do you believe what you do is the right way of doing things? Many of you would argue that truth is subjective or that there are many truths. I am sorry to say that this is probably just ingrained political correctness. Truth is in any useful form is exclusive, something is either true, or it is false. Look into your daily life, the world around us, it is not subjective we cannot alter the fundamental structure because of our point of view. If the gods/spirits/ect… exist then it is probable that they too have fundamental, unalterable reality about them otherwise they would be unable to interact with our reality in any reasonable way making religion useless. The other argument is that there are many truths or that the “truth” is too large and that all faiths point to it. Then I ask, does your religion contain the most “truths” or closest to the “truth” or are you simply settling for something inferior because the search is too hard? Do you simple settle for what is comfortable, for what you know, what makes you feel good about yourself rather than looking for the thing that can better help you better yourself and give your real comfort?

So I ask you my fellow kemetics do you practice what you consider to be the truth or at least the closest to it, that you believe this deep down in the pit of your soul, or do you deny it so you can practice something fashionable, or comforting, or fun, or whatever delusion you choose.

And before I get a thousand angry responses just think about it for more than 5 minutes you owe yourself that.

Where is Netjer/Netcher/GOD [Jul. 15th, 2008|11:29 pm]

Hello everybody, I have a simple question: Where is Netjer/Netcher/massive kemetic godhead from. While I accept many Kemetic polytheists believe in soft polytheist or Monolatrism, and do have evidence to back this up, I can’t find where this particular belief that all gods are Netjer comes from. Sure there was the belief that all gods were part of Amun or Atum or even Nit I have found no textual or modern archeological evidence. In fact Netjer from what I have found is simply equates to “a god” with Netjeret meaning a goddess and Netjeru as the plural, their appears to be no great GOD Netjer/netcher. So where does this belief come from, am I just missing something.

Conscience [May. 23rd, 2008|11:18 am]

I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts (and/or sources) on the relationship between the parts of the soul, the Negative Confession, and conscience.  Apart from social morality, which varies from culture to culture, is there an inborn "conscience" that trues the soul like Ma'at's plumb bob?  If so, why is it occluded in many people, and what puts folks back in touch with it?  What's the relationship between conscience and collective, particularly when they may disagree? (as around slavery or war or excessive consumerism, for example?).  What's the relationship between conscience and the didacticism of the wisdom literature?  Between conscience and the "Dialog between a man and his Ba" ?  Does the lightness of the soul, relative to feather, indicate the quality of a pristine conscience?  Is all occlusion of conscience due to isfat?

Hello All, I thought this might be of interest to the people here. [Apr. 15th, 2008|04:53 pm]

Hello my fellow practitioners of Kemeticism I thought that this project being done by Neos Alexandria (http://www.neosalexandria.org/) might be of interest to the members of this community.

Copied from sannion’s LJ:

Em Hotep!

I am pleased to announce that the members of Neos Alexandria have begun work on the second volume in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

To help promote the revival of traditional polytheistic religions we are launching a series of books dedicated to the ancient gods of Greece and Egypt. Volumes will contain essays, poetry, devotional material, original artwork, etc focused on a particular divinity. The library will be a collaborative effort drawing on the combined resources of the different elements within the modern Hellenic and Kemetic communities, in the hope that we can come together to praise our gods and share our diverse understandings, experiences and approaches to the divine. All of the proceeds for these books will go to help promote the worship of the gods of Greece and Egypt, by being used to put on a Greco-Egyptian religious gathering in 2009, bring out further volumes in the series, or given to charitable causes in the name of the gods.

This volume will be dedicated to Thoth (Egyptian Djehuti) the inventor of writing, the scribe of the gods, the lord of wisdom and magic, and the establisher of peaceful concord in the world.

Please consider submitting your work to this worthy cause!

Send submissions to submissions@neosalexandria.org

* All submissions must be received no later than July 31st, 2008.
* All submissions must be the original work of the author – plagiarism
is strongly frowned upon!
* Multiple submissions by the same author are fine – and encouraged!
* Material that has been published in other places will still be
considered, provided the author retains their copyright to the work.
* The author retains all rights to their work after publication.
* Contact the editors for information on format, length, and other
requirements if you have any questions.

Feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think might be
interested in this project.

Sincerely,

A few questions (cross posted) [Dec. 9th, 2007|06:43 pm]

Evening all!!

I have a few questions and I am hoping that someone will be able to help.

I am currently in my 4th year of my Egyptology Diploma, and I am writing my dissertation..:) The title of which is provisionally Changing aspects of Jackal Gods, from pre-dynastic period to Greaco-Roman Egypt. This dissertation will concentrate on Anubis and His role in Egypt, which is not only interesting from a religious point of view, but also an academic point of view.

What I am looking for is academic evidence of the melding of Wepwawet and Anubis (as is traditional in HoN). I've not found any relgious text, nor historical evidence to back this up.. I have found a relationship between Wep and Khenti-Amentiu though.

What Jackal Gods are there? I have found the following:-
Wepwawet
Khenti-Amentiu
Duamutef
Input (female form of Anubis)
Anubis

I am 100% sure that there is another form of Wep called Seb? Seq? Sed?

Thanks guys..:)

Hotep and Henu,

I was recently asked about Henu.

We all say it, and I am sure we all do some form of Henu in our prayers and at shrine, but.. what is the proper physical act of Henu, Full Henu, and any variation of Henu..? Although I have my own form of Henu, brought to me by Netjer some 20+ years ago.. I wonder how we all differ in what we consider Henu, or the proper form of Henu.

I did some searching on the web, and found something that is put forth as the "correct" pose or positioning and action of Henu, but I disagree with that form. I will not mention that form, or the website that I found it at.. so that I can get every one's personal opinions on this.

I would like comments on what each of you feel is the correct form of Henu.

I will start with what Henu is to me...

Henu as a means of respectful salutation.. to a revered person, priest, etc.. is simply a slight bend of the upper half of the body, bowing head, with arms outreached with hands upwards, palms facing the person of salutation.

Henu as a means of respectful demeanor towards Netjer in simple prayer.. (standing or kneeling) is a half body bow, with arms and hands in the same respect as above.

Full Henu is a means of total submission to the Netjer(u) at shrine, or in the minds shrine.. as a formal prayer.. this is done with the body in prone position, hands and arms in the same respect as mentioned as above.

4 [naive?] questions [Nov. 6th, 2007|12:12 pm]
Kemetic Paths
kohlminer
[Current Location |beachside FL]
[mood |confusedconfused]
[music |the shins - wincing the night away]

Hi, me again.

Well, it seems the more I'm learning, the more I'm realizing there's so much I don't know!
I spent some time on Kemet.org, and signed up for the beginner's class (last one started in September - I don't know when the next one is, do you?), as I figured it was a good place to start.

here are some questions.

1) As you probably know, they give you a pretty hefty questionnaire as to why you are interested in Kemetic Orthodoxy, and one of the questions says, "Are you prepared to learn about and potentially join a fairly conservative religion, having both a strict ethical code and a hierarchical structure?"
Not that this is a deterrent, but could anyone tell me the specifics of this?  In what ways is it conservative and strict?  I do know that there were stigmas attached to eating pork and seafood then as there is now in the Near East - would that be part of it?  Or is it more sexually conservative?  I'm so, so sorry if this is naive or just screams, "NOOB."  Again, just figured I ought to know before I dedicate myself.

2) Also, I'm reading a lot about dedicating yourself specifically to one or two Netjer, and giving yourself a Shemsu name.   Are either necessary?  I'm perfectly comfortable with my own name [Renee] unless it is displeasing to Netjer.  Also, I really wouldn't mind worshiping all of them equally (well, not *all* right away, since there are hundreds, but rather all of which I know well).  Years before I was into Kemetic Religion I was strictly Aset-based, though more Greco-Roman all-encompassing-goddess Isis, than Aset.  Could that be a sign that she is already picked out for me, or would choosing one require much longer study?

3) I was pleased to find out that having an ancestral altar is part of it, because I find a lot of joy in making altars.  I know aspects of KO are very specific - so is there a certain color scheme (is black too predictable, or pitch perfect?) I want to look for, or is it more of a "whatever you feel speaks to you" thing?  Are there certain smells, fabrics, food offerings, prayers that I want to use/keep away in using this altar?

4) Ok, last one, I promise.  I know the Ancient Egyptians were big on dream interpretations, especially if they were expecting the Netjer to give them information or insight that night.   However, my dreams [like many peoples'] are often disjointed, and incoherent.  Is there a way to decipher them and find any relevance?  Will any New Age dream book do, or did the Egyptians have particular associations and correlations in terms of dream content?

Phew.  Again - I apologize if I used the wrong term, mixed up my facts, or asked anything blatantly obvious.  I just feel that one never knows until one asks :)

Thanks in advance!

hotep.

I was  bringing 'hugs' to the Per Heh Kuddo/Praises boards both in the Per Heh temple house private side and the outer forums.

However the code does not work properly there. Therefore I am bringing it here...to Kemetic_Paths on LJ.
Any member of this community and and member of the Per Heh outer forum boards who is also a member of this community
can give someone a hug in the comment section of this entry or create an entirely new entry and give someone a special hug there.

Everyone needs to be shown they are special and valued. Sometimes more than others.

I would like to put up a basic 'form' hugs maker.

This would allow folks to put in a name and give that person a hug.

Hugs are good. They are all good. Healthy too.

Remember giving and getting heart felt hugs keeps the doctor away.

Senebty,
Nemtetsemnewty

Get your own hugs counter! Put your livejournal username here!
Actually, any unique identifier will work.
But you probably get more hugs if you have a livejournal.

Ladies and Gentlemen, hotep:

I am Synetynemtetsemnewty - Nemtetsemnewty for short. I am the founder and original maintainer of Kemetic_Paths and yes Per-Heh on Live Journal community journals.

Immediately after my post is another which contains derogatory comments related to three Kemetic temple houses. This will not be tolerated.

I am posting text from the community information page. Please make note of it.

Any individual who displays behaviour unbecoming will be warned publicly upon the first infraction, privately the second and permanently banned upon the 3rd infraction. There is a 3 strike you are out tolerance in this form. None are exempted from this rule.

For those with an extreme vision problem, I am reposting the pertinent information here.

unifying interests centre around Netjer and all paths Kemetic.

All people are valued here regardless of their House/temple affiliation or lack there-of.

If either membership or religious temple house bashing is your thing, look elsewhere. It won't be tolerated here.

Em Hotep (In peace).

If you are aligned with the Kemetic and the Ntrw (Netjeru) speak to you - than regardless of your denomination and path, YOU ARE MOST WELCOME HERE. All that is requested of you and yes mandated of you is that you treat others with the level of respect you expect from others even if they don't agree with you - because they are children of Netjer. Now if you can do that one thing you are welcome and I will be darned if I sit here and proceed to tell you about what topic you cannot write and upon what topic you can. All topics inspired by Netjer and your heart to write are welcome here.

The one thing I do not want you to do is to fear being exactly who you are and expressing that truth.

The only wrong question is the question that is not asked.

I have solid knowledge of general Kemetic history but my study of the gods and the religion is only really just begun so please bear with me.

Some of the books I've been reading have stated that Hethert (Hathor) is the consort of Re. Sources I'd consider more reliable state that she is the consort of Heru (Horus).

Is the latter correct?
Does Re even have a consort?

I have noticed over the last few months that a darker side of me that I never knew I had is coming out. I seem more at home with darkness and underworldfeatures then I am use to. Granted I have always enjoyed things like Vampires, Lycanthropes, Magickal craft, and the power of the Moon and Nature, but I feel more drawn now to it then ever before.

It is as if I want to become more one with it. Perhaps not all of it, but something. Over the past 3 years, I have gotten 3 tattoos, but 1 is religious in nature (penticle). The others are vampiric in symbolizim and nature. I find myself reading more about fact of, rather then fiction and I am more drawn in my dreams about these subjects that at times, I awake from deep slumber, thinking I was something more then what I am now.

Is there something I can do to better understand why this is happening or a meditation I can go to?

Introduction [Jun. 17th, 2007|11:04 am]
Kemetic Paths

mauvedragon
Em Hotep.

I'm - the safest label to use - an eclectic pagan, though non-wiccanesque. I follow four deities, two non-kemetic, two kemetic. One of the non-kemetic deities I consider my spiritual parent.

The Kemetic deities I follow are Bast and Het-Heret (Het-Heru). I relate to Bast primarily as a protector, and Het-Heret as a Healer and Nurturer. I'm well aware that they're more complex than that and that some of their common attributations overlap. Probably from syncretism in the Greco-Roman period. All my relationships with deities reflect or nurture traits of my own personality.

I would like to know how many KMTans there are that have children... and if you feel like sharing, how do you teach them? I have 5 children, only 1 of whom has become KMTic. One is Atheist, Two of them don't know what they are (lol) and One is Christian (but like most.. not a very good one..lol).

Also, if anyone would like to contribute into some ways to teach your child(ren) KMT. I am going to be compiling some children's stories, and ways of NTR for teaching children about KMT.

I don't pretend to know everything about every NTR, so any and all help would be great! and greatly appreciated!!

Greetings to all!

I am not new to the pagan path, I have been practicing for around 8 years.  I have, however, known and loved Aset for much longer, with my first real exposure being "The Pharaoh's Daughter"--something just really felt right.  I don't know anything about Kemeticism, but I feel it is now time for me to learn.   While Aset is my primary deity, I also worship Anubis and Thoth. (I'm sure they have different names in Kemetic).

Basically, I feel as though Aset has been indulgent enough in my ignorance, and would like me to become educated.  I have started some research on Kemet.org, but any advice or pointers will be appreciated.

I do have one specific question, though.  I have been using this prayer for the better part of eight years, and I wanted to make sure there was nothing horrible or wrong about it:

I hail You and praise You,
     Glorious Goddess,
At the end of this day which You granted me.
May my actions within it's hours judged to be justified,
And my words within it's hours found to be true.
Drain from me all intent and action,
I offer to You all energy I have locked in
    unworthy action or reaction.
May tomorrow by You grace find me wiser and my joy in the universe still greater.
I ask Your welcome now in the temple,
Accept this night for rest, for study and for worship.
Grant me dreams of meaning and the memory to recall them.
Hail to You, Goddess of the starry pathways,
Hail to you, Goddess of the Deep Black
Hail to You, Goddess of the Shining Sun at midnight,
May I partake of Your glory forever.

It has always felt right, but I thought I should check with you all, in case it isn't one of her prayers.

Em hotep!

I am relatively new to kemeticism, having only just offered to the Netjer once. I decided to practice this religion after two months of research, although this may seem like a short time, I have been privately studying ancient Egypt since I was twelve. I have found kemeticism is every thing I've been searching for in a religion. I have always felt a strong connection to Heru, and to find a way to express my admiration for him was absolutely wonderful. I hope to learn much from this community.

That's enough about me,

Some brief announcements are being made.

I will be updating the profile sections of this community as well as my own lj.
There is a section on that profile which lists most of the Kemetic communities presently on lj.
Please take a moment to go to nemtetsemnewty's profile page (click on the little figure next to my name and you will be taken to it.)Look at the section on Kemetic communities to which I previously made mention and if you notice any community is NOT listed in the section ===>but<=== you would like it to be, add a comment to this entry listing particulars.

In addition, I would like to call attention to a community journal that has NO members.
notes_to_skhmt has been up a while. It is a community ===>for people would like to post their notes to this most wonderful of Ntrw (Netjeru)<===.

Finally, there is a Kemetic Gratitude journal for any Kemetic who practices 'list 5 items a day in gratitude' in real life. I realize most do it on paper in journal form but for those who wish to use a cyberspace alternative, this community might be the thing. It is called"ntjrsabundance. I am going to amend the security settings of the ntjrsabundance journal to 'friends only'. This will allow those who are members to express themselves more freely about what it is they are grateful. While there is really no reason to feel uncomfortable about listing the things for which one is grateful, I realize also there are those who do feel shy about writing within truly public filter......hence the change in security setting.

I think that about covers it for present. I will be adding more announcements in the near future.

Em hotep Everyone,

I am new to this community, but fairly new to Kemetic practice. I started off on a path that was celtic, but never felt at home to it. I discovered Kemetic while reading some books and went into research and discovering this path and I remain with it still and comfortable with my choice. I look to Isis as my Goddess on this path, but I have a few questions.

1) How should I go about choosing a kemetic (egyptian) name for myself?

2) Where could I find good books on rituals and practice?

and

3) Upon my alter, I have a small statue of "Open winged" Isis with candles and all 4 elements surrounding her. Should there be more I am to add or take away?

Thank you all.

Hotep everyone:
(henu)

I have been quietly updating several journals as time permits.
One of them is near completion.

It is called:

dua_serqet

Check it out and tell me what you think.

While I am about it, check out another list as well.

dua_sekhmet

tameritsekhmet created it and if I am correct is its maintainer.
She is a fantastic person and someone worth knowing and associating with.

I will announce updates to the other Kemetic themed journals that I maintain as these are completed.

Senebty,

Hey there!

I'm a fantasy writer whose two main characters are pagans: one is Hellenic and the other is Kemetic. I know quite a bit about the Greek gods and Greek religion but sadly not as much as I'd like on the Kemetic faith. If people could help me out with some good sources of information, I would love to have a realistic portrayal of the character and the practices--especially since both of them are Classical geeks and I'd like that to be consistent with their knowledge. :) His primary god is Anubis (Anpu) if that helps any.

Thanks a mil in advance!

Em hotep.

I'm not very good at these little intro thingies, so just the basics: I joined this community because I've been devoted to Aset for many years. I'm now a KO Shemsu.

My journal is friends-only, but I add almost anyone. :)

I have noticed a few new faces in this community. Please be advised there is a motion on the floor as to what security level this journal should have.

All members with posting ability are requested to respond to this poll.

In addition, I would like everyone who has joined to write an entry of introduction.
It need not be long. It need not contain private or personal information unless you
yourself desire to do so.

Thank you.

I am new here (to this community) but nowhere near new to the Kemetic religion. I have been informally practicing it in some form or another all my life. Now I am dedicating myself fully to Netjeru, and have already sent in my application to HoN so that I may become Shemsu.

I feel exhilarated yet at peace when I think of Netjeru, and Yinepu and Sekhmet especially keep Their eyes open for me. In fact, I have a small shrine to Him in my room.

If anyone would like to talk, you may email me, my email is on my userinfo.

Senebty,

I may not be able to on line for a while. While the reasons for this developing situation, are not relevant to the focus of this forum, I am writing here at this to time to make everyone aware that I may not be around for a period of several weeks.

Having said this, I will continue this entry by turning to another topic.

Shortly after my mother's passing, I purchased a prayer book written by Tamara L. Siuda, M.A. with the sole intention of saying specific prayers for my blessed akhu and for my mother who had newly departed to begin her journey into Duat; prayers that I had heard where published therein.

What I found upon perusal of this work is a prayerbook that is not only a singular work of beauty, but a venue for contemplation and a font of knowledge for many within the Kemetic community as a whole.

Entitled the
"The Ancient Egyptian Prayerbook",

this tome can be purchased by going to:

http://www.egyptianprayers.com/

While the prayer book is intended to be predominantly used by followers of the Kemetic Orthodox faith, it is not exclusively so.

The prayerbook showcases two of Ms. Siuda's strongest talented abilities- those of educator and communicator.

In concise language and economy of word, Ms. Siuda ( the 196 Nisut, Hekatawy I to those who follow her teachings and spiritual doctrine) is able to convey complex concepts and ideas in such a way as to be understood by people spanning global geological, economical and social strata.

The prayers themselves are beautiful as is the Senut, she has (been inspired to write) written is beautiful and (they are) very moving.

Until its appearance in the prayer book the Senut, in its present form, has been almost exclusively available to the members of the Kemetic Orthodox faith only.

By publishing the Senut in her prayerbook, Ms. Siuda, gifts the world at large, apart from her faithful, with an example of strikingly beautiful liturgy.

For a prayerbook of its calibre, the cost is extremely reasonable.

If you are reading this, I truly suggest you either purchase, borrow and barter a copy of her work for your own. Yes, it's that good.

For those of you who are staring at this entry in utter shock and disbelief, let me add that I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

As a Kemetic priest within the House of Per-Heh and a follower of the Veridical Kemetic Faith, I am stressing that although I am not now a member of the Kemetic Orthodox religion, I do love the prayers that are within the prayerbook and predominantly used in the Kemetic Orthodox faith. I have no vested interest in writing what I have. I simply desire to bring everyone's attention to a beautiful text.

In the spirit of fostering good will and harmony between all the the denominations within the main Kemetic branch of faith, I warmly invite every member of this community to post here sharing their favourite religious text.

Thank you.
Senebty,

Em Hotep everyone:

We had a few people joining within the last few days and I want to welcome them. This community is here for you, its members. People are here from every path and Kemetic tradition or denomination within the Kemetic branch of faiths.

It's main purpose is to be a venue or forum for everyone. We are here to celebrate who we are and how we serve God as we define that Deity to be. We don't tear each other down, snipe at each other
or seek to elevate ourselves by tearing down others. I am NOT pointing fingers, just reminding people of the basic ground rules as
it been a while since I posted them as well as anything at all.

For those of you who are unaware, my mother died this February past and I am in the midst of a 70 day mourning period.

Please therefore, while I am absent be kind and encouraging toward one another.
Thank you.

Sekhmet awakened
Sekhmet awakened

I started this project years ago and although I worked hard at it, nothing quite jelled. Finally I put it away to return and work on it over the years. Recently, I returned to it again at her request. Instead of making it better I felt I made it much worse...so I wanted to give up entirely and scrap the project. She (mother) would not let me rest. She let me know, it looked worse because I had not gone far enough with it and urged me to press on - continue dispite my doubts and misgivings.

I did. The result is what you see.

Please do take a moment and post a comment if you are looking at this picture.

Please. I have been working on it -on and off for several years and think I have become too close to it to be objective. What aspect of it is good and what needs improving?

Thanks for all comments before hand.

I would appreciate hearing from you to. Come on people, I am not that boring, am I?

Huggles to all.

There is something that has been niggling in the back of my mind for a long time now, and it is becoming increasingly likely that it is going to develop into a very important theory in my spiritual path, and I need to put it down in a written format so I can really start to play with the concepts entailed therein. I must hasten to assure everyone that this isn't a finished theory, merely something I am playing with and it will likely be greatly changed by the time I come to consider it ready to be used in any real way.

London Kemetics! [Aug. 20th, 2005|07:01 pm]

Hi all,

I am looking to contact any other kemetics in the London/Surrey area of the UK. I am reasonably sure there may be a temple running in London. I am not sure I want to actually join another temple, as I am happy with finding my own path worshipping solo for now, but it'd be great to be linked with others of the same beliefs.

Does anyone know of any Kemetics in London?

Nut or Nuit [Jul. 23rd, 2005|08:48 pm]
Kemetic Paths
enigmius93
Well, I'm not finding too much info on Nut, but I did find some hints. I also accept Crowley's Book of the Law and his first chapter as a modern voice Of Nut(Nuit). This may be heretical in the Kemetic circles, but you see tons of variation on the names of the Egyptian deities through out different areas and time periods. Perhaps Nuit is just another way Nut would like to be honored today.

What do you guys think about this idea?
